Onboarding large organizations to an IaC management platform is no small task. Signing up and deploying a few initial environments is straightforward, but full onboarding can take days or even weeks, depending on infrastructure complexity.
This is a challenge we understand well, which is why we've developed features like environment discovery and the TFC migration Tool to help customers achieve value faster. For larger enterprises, we’ve also introduced a dedicated 1-day PoC process to accelerate the first steps of onboarding.
Today, we’re excited to introduce a new capability that delivers instant value, allowing you to detect and analyze drift within minutes, even before fully onboarding to env0.
With just a few clicks, you can surface configuration drift across your cloud account, pinpoint its cause, and gain the context needed for quick, informed reconciliation—addressing deep-rooted and overlooked issues that could lead to security risks, compliance gaps, and hidden cost sprawl.
How It Works
The ability to instantly detect drift is powered by Cloud Compass, which analyzes your infrastructure posture using our proprietary algorithm and AI-assisted logic. With this upgrade, Cloud Compass now assesses drift likelihood, identifying risk based on past events.
Drift information appears directly in the Cloud Compass dashboard under a new 'Drift Risk' column, complete with filtering options to help you quickly identify and prioritize potential issues.
Importantly, this analysis can produce insights from up to 12 months back, providing a historical view of drift. As such, it supplements our existing drift detection solution, which tracks changes from the moment it’s activated, by uncovering past drift events for a more comprehensive picture.
Together, these capabilities give you full visibility into drift—past, present, and future.
Detecting drift is only the first step. Understanding who made the change, how it happened, and when it occurred is just as important, giving you the clarity to take confident action.
That’s where our recently announced Drift Cause feature comes in. Clicking ‘Details’ on a flagged resource opens a panel with drift status, severity classification, and a full history of changes, including both API-driven and manual actions.
Other Cloud Compass Improvements
With resources fully managed in env0, Cloud Compass now provides direct links between discovered resources and their corresponding env0 environments.
These usability enhancements make it easier to access relevant data, track ownership, understand resource purpose, and connect infrastructure to its IaC management.
What’s Next
As part of our broader vision for cloud infrastructure management, Cloud Compass will continue to evolve, expanding beyond visibility to provide deeper insights and greater operational control.
Upcoming enhancements will include smarter detection for unmanaged resources, tighter integrations with managed environments, cost impact analysis, and automatic code generation to seamlessly codify discovered resources into IaC.
By bridging discovery with full lifecycle management, these updates will help teams improve efficiency, strengthen governance, and better align cloud operations with business goals.
